Effectiveness of Portal Frame

Constructing buildings are easy but strong base are not the thing that everybody cares for. Though it is the thing to care for, it is found to be ignored most of the times. Most often we get to hear that in so called place so called building collapsed. Is it good news to hear such incident? It is not, right? But also most of the builders do not apply best measures to prevent from such circumstances. But there are some of the industries that help to build best of the construction.

Nowadays, new technique called Portal frame is being used to prevent from uneven situations. It is a method to build, construct and design the structures by reinforcing steel concrete materials in the construction process. Though they can be constructed with the help of laminated timber they are reinforced with concrete materials. These steel framed portals help to carry the bending forces by making connections between the rafters and the columns. They are designed in such a way that they act as the moment resistant

The portal frame has very strong joints and is placed to fix the materials at a place. The bending moments that happen in the rafters are transferred to the columns with the help of these frames. The size of the rafters can be reduced and the span can be improved for increasing the span as well making it a very effective construction technique.

Z Purlin ‘A’ Technical Term

Technical writing is really difficult but if we understand it clearly then it becomes the most interesting topic. Last Sunday I was just sitting like a lazy bird then suddenly something cropped up my mind. The term was Z Purlin. For a minute I was confused what does it mean but when I found out its real meaning, I became more fascinated to know what it really is and how it functions.

It is a light-gauge member with a Z-like cross section. The pre-punched purlins are fast to install and appropriate for both insulated and uninsulated roofs and walls. The depth and height of the purlin carefully chosen depend on span distance and loads. To improve the design, the PurCalc software is used. It is used in applications such as:

Industrial construction

Hall and warehouse construction

Extension construction and renovation

In structural design, structural engineering or constructing edifice, a purlin (or factually purline, purloyne, purling, perling) is any horizontal, longitudinal, structural member in a rooftop apart from a type of edging with what is called a crown plate. In outmoded Timber framing there are three elementary types of purlin: purlin plate, principal purlin and common purlin.

All of these have their own specialty and are used according to the requirement of the work.
